Is Global design is necessary for every culture or being a Western is mean being accept?

This is the question that I raise in class when we discussing about Global Design history. As I am from Thailand, the country that we have our own distinguished culture and distinctive architecture.Thailand was know as an exotic natural country, tropical location and lots of unique design/architecture.Our design didn’t get a lot influence from Western country, but we can see it more often in our modern era. Some influences of a country’s architecture are from Chinese,Burmese.Khmer and even Indian.

Thai Innovative Craft — a contemporary take on traditional techniques

We have our own language and the way we communicate in each province also different, Bangkok speak different from North and South of Thailand. As well as art and craft from different province, there are many unique craft which is the legacy from generation to generation.Furthermore, the material was our own natural resources that we can find it from different places in Thailand. Now a day, we try to preserve Thai’s hand craft by combining young generation designer with the craftsmanship to produce a product which is modern and suitable for this period time.

Moreover, most of Thai people educated in Thai school which we taught to learn Thai history not Global history(usually international school they teach differently from Thai school) or if we’re in design school we’ve been taught about history of art and design.Different country have there own different background and the need of translating everything in english for me is not necessary.

Majority of Thai’s people can speak little or no english because only people who study abroad or have experience in english class will know the language.Furthermore, the structure of Thai’s language is quite different.Thai’s language have no verb conjugations, no noun declensions, no “a”,”an”,”the”,”some”,or “any”.Thai grammar is much simpler an to understand English grammar is extremely difficult for Thais.

All in all, in my point of view when translating any language to English might lost the essence of our own language.Every culture have their own beauty and if it’s not in English it doesn’t mean that they lost their chance to be accept in the Western world.
